PENTECOST 14 - The Letter of James; Mark 7:1-8, 14-15, 21-23

The Letter (or Epistle) of James can be understood as the wisdom literature of the New Testament. Just as the books of Job, Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, and the Song of Songs communicate wisdom in the Hebrew Bible, James does the same for the Christian reader. As an aid to embrace the letter in its fullness, Rev Derwyn lets it speak for itself in this sermon, reading the text in its entirety so that we can get the feel for what James is saying. Doing this will lead to some interesting observations and questions that will be worth exploring in the weeks to come. You'll probably find it easiest to follow along when he reads it, so you might want to get a copy of the New Revised Standard Version of the Bible to do so, or download the booklet at the link below.
