The Good Shepherd Sunday School runs from September to June, taking a break over the summer holidays. Children aged 4 to 11 are welcome to join our Sunday School during the 10:00am service, or they are welcome to stay upstairs with their families and take part in the service if they wish. They'll begin upstairs with everyone and then be dismissed at the Children's Time early in the service.
The Sunday School meets in a one-room setting, so the children learn and interact together. We begin our lesson with a welcome, where the children get a chance to catch up and share their stories from the week. We then dive into a bible reading and encourage the children to discuss what they have heard. An activity or craft will follow that usually reflects the bible reading we have just heard.
A sidesperson will notify us when we have 5 minutes until the sharing of the peace, at which point we will finish up our lesson and begin clean-up. We all head upstairs to be with our families/caregivers in time for the sharing of the peace. The children remain upstairs until the end of the service.
Nursery
There are two nursery areas available you are welcome to use during our services. These areas are reserved for children under the age of 4 and their caregiver, and as these areas are unstaffed, the caregiver must remain with their child at all times.
A small, quiet play area is located just outside the main doors to the sanctuary. There you will find some quiet toys, a race car mat, books and colouring books. From here, you will be able to listen to the readings, sermon and the prayers as there are two speakers in this area. For those whose children would like a little more room to roam, the larger nursery room is located in the lower hall in the back room, near the Sunday School area. There is a change table, exersaucer, play kitchen, colouring supplies, books and plenty of toys available. Due to safety concerns, we ask that no children are left unattended in either of these nursery areas during the service.
