ADVENT 2 - Isaiah 40:1-11; Mark 1:1-5

About three times each year, we have our handbell choir, the Shepherd Bells, play in our service. This morning, the choir played the Prelude, Offertory Hymn, and Recessional Hymn, and you'll find all three pieces in this video. We appreciate Annie Hergott for directing the choir over the past number of years and we're delighted to see how the choir has been improving in their performance!

The book of Isaiah is one of the more noteworthy books in the Bible, and part of the reason is because it addresses episodes experienced in 200-300 years of Israel's history. Some say that this is because of very specific predictive prophecy, but it is more likely that it was put together after Israel's exile when people were working to rebuild the temple, the city of Jerusalem, and the Israelite nation. And why was this? To encourage the people to continue in their work of restoration and rebuilding for a very good reason . . .
