EPIPHANY 5 - 2 Kings 2:1-15; Mark 6:1-16

The writer of the Gospel of Mark deliberately unfolds a portrait of Jesus that reveals him to be a rabbi, a prophet, the Messiah/Christ, and the Son of God. Why this is done is to show the importance of what Jesus had to say, to teach, and to proclaim. The "deeds of power" accompanied this proclamation were not the focal point of Jesus's ministry, but were signs encouraging those who read the Gospel of Mark to understand why it is important to pay attention to what he had to say.
