PENTECOST 17 - Lamentations 1:1-6; Psalm 137; Luke 17:5-10

When we experience grief, we go through a variety of emotions, all of which are naturally occurring to us as human beings. While no one wants to remain in depression or anger or denial, the fact that we spend time there is not inherently bad, and certainly must not be considered sinful. While we look for the peace of God in our lives and look ahead in hope for restoration, we must also rest in the knowledge that it may take time to get there . . . and God is good with that. In the words of Sarah Mullally, newly-appointed Archbishop of Canterbury, "Hope does not skip over grief, pain, and the messiness of life, but enters into it and tenderly tells us that God is with us."
