REMEMBRANCE - 2 Thessalonians 2:1-5, 13-17; Luke 20:27-38

When taking time in a church service to honour those who fought and died for our country, there is often some tension between the reality of warfare and what we think God thinks about it. It is important to realize that we can and should remember those who paid the ultimate price in service to their fellow citizens and to others in need without having to conclude that God is completely comfortable with war . . .

In a similar way, there is tension as we consider what the coming of the Lord is supposed to look like. Does the Prince of Peace actually make his return in the context of violence? Does the message communicated in the later books of the New Testament actually fit the demonstration of God's character revealed in Christ Jesus?

In this sermon, Rev Derwyn invites us to learn how to live with the tension we find in both of these observations . . .
