The season of Advent serves a dual purpose: it builds our anticipation for the arrival of Jesus at Christmastime, and it builds our anticipation for what is known as the Second Coming of Christ (among other labels). In either case, how we perceive the upcoming season can vary from excitement and enthusiasm to dread and despair. How can this be? Using the passages of Isaiah and Matthew as examples of two different approaches to the "day of the Lord", Rev Derwyn explores the implications of our varied expectations of the coming of Christmas . . .
