The chunks of the biblical text given to us in the lectionary are not always self-contained passages with a lesson that is clearly applicable to us. And this passage from 1 Corinthians 2 is one of them. Instead, this passage is simply part of the Apostle Paul's efforts to let the Corinthian church know that they should pay attention to what he has to say in the rest of the letter. As Rev Derwyn explains this idea, the encouragement for us to is to see in this an invitation to exercise godly wisdom in knowing how to approach the varied circumstances we find ourselves in, as we endeavour to live faithfully for Christ Jesus.
